Keeping Your Teeth Healthy During The Holiday Season

How to still enjoy the holidays while keeping a healthy smile: ‘Tis the season to be cavity-free!

The most wonderful time of the year is quickly approaching! Everyone knows that during the holidays there is one thing everyone can agree on: FOOD. All kinds of food. Whether it’s the pumpkin pie you wait all year or that oh-so-delicious peppermint bark that your Aunt Becky makes every year. Sometimes, it is hard to stop and think about your overall health during the holidays, but here are a couple of helpful tips to make your teeth jolly!

Brush your teeth after you eat your holiday sweet treats:

Candy canes, popcorn balls, cookies, and candy corn…all four of these delicious treats have one thing in common. The damage they do to your teeth. Don’t worry! We’re not saying to cut them out indefinitely, just make sure to brush your teeth after! It is better to also snack on sweets instead of eating them all in one sitting. This will reduce the spread of cavities and tooth decay.

Sticky is Icky:

There are so many sticky treats during this season. You know and love them, but in reality, they can cause a lot of damage to your smile. Sticky treats are a lot harder to get out of your teeth than others. Make sure to floss and brush your teeth right away after you consume these treats to help with build-up and tooth decay.

Go ahead, enjoy the holiday season with your family and loved ones. That is what it’s all about. However, don’t forget about taking care of your teeth friends because they need that extra attention too!

Your teeth aren’t a tool:

During the holiday’s gift wrapping and giving, are a must. We know in the moment it is easy to use your teeth to open packages or to cut tape. Leave that to the help of scissors! Using your teeth as a tool can cause breaks and chips. Also, if you do it often, it can cause your teeth to shift out of alignment and wear unevenly.

Don’t forget that we are always here for you during this holiday season! We would be happy to assist in any way that we can! Happy Holidays to our Lumio Family.
